The Positive Steps group have received further funding for a Transnational Youth Initiative to spread their message internationally during 2012 since performing at the World Skills Event in London. The group won funding from the Youth in Action programme, which is managed in the UK by the British Council, the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. The programme helps young people to become active citizens and better-equipped for the world of work, and promotes solidarity, social cohesion and co-operation within Europe and neighbouring countries.

The young leader from Positive Steps said about the project: “Mistakes you make when you’re young shouldn’t be a life sentence. Taking part in this project with my peers has allowed me to learn new skills and channel my energies into a creative project. I’ve learnt to become super-organised and focused, whilst working hard to bring the community of Birmingham together.”

Simon Williams, Head of EU Programmes at the British Council, said: “The Youth in Action and Lifelong Learning Programmes aim to prepare young people for life and work in our global society. These programmes help to build trust and understanding between people of different cultures. Participants of these programmes learn skills that will be invaluable in their future lives and workplaces.”

IVOLO are proud of the Positive Steps group and grateful to the Youth in Action programme for their support. Willenhall on the move is a Youth Initiative funded through the Youth in Action Programme which was the idea of four young people from Coventry who all have a passion for performing and dance in particular. The aim is to showcase local talent and to give all of the community the opportunity to be involved and to give young people something positive to do.
